Historical Perspectives

 

The ECOSOCC movement was spearheaded by MACOSS under the Chairmanship of Mr Paramasiva Chengan in the late 2006. After countrywide sensitization,  the National Chapter of African Union's ECOSOCC (AUEM) was launched at Gold-Crest Hotel on 13th March 2007 in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Regional Integration and Mr. Charles Mutasa,  member of the AU ECOSOCC Steering Committee.

 

 

 AUEM celebrated ECOSOCC Day and its 1st anniversary in March 2008 at Manisa Hotel in the presence of representatives from CIDO.

AUEM is a registered  under the Registration of Associations Act of the Republic of Mauritius and operates as a fully autonomous entity.

 

Aims & Objectives


  • Promote continuous dialogue between all segments of the Mauritian People on
    issues concerning Mauritius and Africa and their future; 
  • Forge strong partnerships between governments and all segments of the civil society, in particular women, the youth, children, organized labour, the private sector and professional groups; 
  • Promote the participation of Mauritian civil society in the implementation of
    the policies and programmes of the African Union.
  • Support policies and programmes that will promote peace, security and
    stability in Mauritius as well as in Africa, and foster development and integration of the nation and the continent;
  • Promote and defend a culture of good governance, democratic principles and
    institutions, popular participation, human rights and freedoms as well as social justice;
  • Promote, advocate and defend a culture of gender equality;
  • Promote and strengthen the institutional, human and operational capacities
    of the Mauritian-African civil society;
